About

“Contriving the Chimes/August is also cruel” was commissioned by Majel Connery and the St. Lawrence String Quartet as part of Connery’s 2016-17 Mohr Visiting Artist Residency at Stanford University. Connery and the quartet partnered with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, composer Doug Balliett, and famed opera director Christopher Alden to present a workshop staging of vocal quintets Contriving the Chimes (by Shaw) and August is also cruel (by Doug Balliett). Taken under wing by Opera Cabal  the piece will travel to New York City in 2018-19. Stay tuned for details.
